Beilschmiedia tarairi/taraire

Common canopy tree of northern North Island. Leaves large, leathery, oval, silvery underneath. Twigs and young leaves with reddish down. Flowers inconspicuous. Fruit very large, dark purple, glossy, held upright, containing a single large elliptical seed.
